Keynote
Sensory Mindfulness:
Engaging All Senses to Ignite Empathy
Several years ago, I was invited to present at a conference. It was with the Professional Speakers Association of the Netherlands. The theme of the conference was Innovation in Speaking.
What I came up with is the idea of sensory mindfulness leading to broader thinking and understanding. Empathy is the ability to get into someone else's shoes, gain an understanding of their feelings and perspectives, and use that understanding to guide one's actions. It is observed that 80-85 percent of our sensory input is through our sight. Practicing sensory mindfulness stretches the mind by leaning into all senses to perceive and learn new ways of understanding the world, yourself and others. Joining me and my guide dog on a mental sensory walk, I share with you the joy of being blind, inviting you to step out of yourself and into my shoes on a mental excursion to ignite the empathy in you.

Coaching
In discovering your strengths and talents using the CliftonStrengths assessment, I will guide you as you experience “aha” moments that raise your self-awareness and give context to your personal and professional style.
CliftonStrengths is open to all individuals seeking to unlock potential and boost productivity. If you do not understand yourself first, you cannot effectively open yourself to understanding others.

Lunch & Learn Sessions

Designed for management and teams, my interactive lunch and learn “Practicing the Art of Empathy and Active Listening” gives you and your team tips and tools on how to mentally step outside yourselves to understand and actively listen to each other. In teaching principles from the Harvard Negotiation Institute on active listening, which is demonstrating your understanding of another’s concerns and viewpoints, you and your team will open increased channels of communication. Honing this skill builds relationships and leads to improved productivity. As an added bonus, this enhanced communication style benefits you and your team in both professional and personal life relationships. “Practicing the Art of Empathy and Active Listening” is a one-hour lunch and learn presented virtually, hybrid or onsite. It is all about stepping outside yourself to listen and learn
